(1927-) George Hazard Crooker University Professor of Demography and Sociology (Emeritus), Brown University.

Having completed his B.A. and M.A. at the University of Connecticut, Goldstein received his Ph.D. from the University of Pennsylvania. Generally recognized as the "Dean of Demographers of American Jewry," Goldstein's international acclaim led to his appointment as visiting scholar in Denmark, Thailand, Hawaii, Australia, China, Italy, and Israel. He served as the President of the Population Association of America (1975-1976) and as a consultant to the Ford Foundation, United Nations, NIH, and the Council of Jewish Federations. The author of 38 books and monographs, about 150 articles, and 200 professional papers and lectures, he is especially well known as coauthor of Jewish Americans (with Calvin Goldscheider, Prentice Hall 1968) and Jews on the Move (with Alice Goldstein, SUNY Press 1996), based on the 1990 Jewish Population Survey. In recognition of his contribution to the Social Scientific Study of Jewry, Goldstein received the first award for Distinguished Scholarship in the Study of Jewry from ASSJ in 1992.
