SCHNEPP, GERALD J. 

(1908-1985) A member of the Society of Mary (Marianists), Schnepp held a B.A. from the University of Dayton and both an M.A. and a Ph.D. from Catholic University of America. He spent a number of years as a faculty member at St. Mary's University and at St. Louis University before being elected Treasurer General of his order, headquartered in Rome, a post he held from 1960 to 1976. President, American Catholic Sociological Society, 1945; President, Association for the Scientific Study of Religion-Southwest, 1985.

Brother Schnepp's publications in the sociology of religion included Leakage from a Catholic Parish (Catholic University of America Press 1942) and a chapter in Parish Sociology edited by Nuesse and Harte (Bruce 1951). He wrote for a wide variety of journals and publications on the family, Catholic education, economics, sociological theory, and social justice issues.
