DUDLEY, CARL S. | ||||
(1932-) Professor of Church and Community at
Hartford Seminary. Dudley is known for an emphasis on congregations and
their mission in local communities. President, Religious Research
Association, 1997-1998.
After serving as a Presbyterian pastor, Dudley taught for 20 years at McCormick Seminary and founded the Center for Church and Community Ministries. He is author or editor of 10 books, including an important work on small congregations, Making the Small Church Effective (Abingdon 1978). A large-scale church and community action research project that Dudley directed led to publication of Basic Steps in Community Ministry (Alban Institute 1991) and Energizing the Congregation (with Sally A.
