EBAUGH, HELEN Rose FUCHS
(1942-) Professor and former Chair of the Department of Sociology, University of Houston; Ph.D. in sociology, Columbia University, 1975. President, Association for the Sociology of Religion, 1990.

Ebaugh's books include Out of the Cloister: A Study of Organizational Dilemmas (University of Texas Press 1977), Becoming an Ex: The Process of Role Exit (University of Chicago Press 1988), the edited volume Vatican II and United States Catholicism (JAI 1992), and Women in the Vanishing Cloister: Organizational Decline in Catholic Religious Orders (Rutgers University Press 1993). She has also published numerous chapters in edited volumes and articles in scholarly journals. In addition to her presidency of the ASR, she has served in a variety of capacities in all the American professional societies devoted to the social scientific study of religion. She was instrumental in organizing the American Sociological Association Section on the Sociology of Religion and was elected its first Chair.
